This past weekend my husband and I went on our very first camping trip together— a 20-mile canoe trip down the good ol’ gator-infested Peace River. It was incredible— and prime time to unplug from all forms of media!
Considering we made the trip with two additional couples, I decided to bring a keto-friendly snack to pass that was sure to be a crowd-pleaser— 3lbs of buffalo chicken dip. I actually intended on sharing that recipe with you instead of this Homemade Dry Ranch Seasoning. The only problem with that plan— the recipe basically went to shit. We’re talking five hours of Instant Pot hell— burnt cheese, buffalo sauce to the eyeballs, and the overall small-kitchen house of horror. The only thing that went right throughout the whole ordeal was the Homemade Dry Ranch Seasoning— so I thought I’d share that with you instead.
Why Make Dry Ranch Seasoning?
Traditional buffalo chicken dip recipes often call for Hidden Valley Dry Ranch Seasoning. In fact, a lot of recipes call for a dry ranch seasoning. The problem with Hidden Valley Ranch is that their products are filled with all sorts of garbage additives and preservatives such as MSG and maltodextrin.
The good news: This Homemade Dry Ranch Seasoning Mix mimics Hidden Valley without all the BS.
How to Make Dry Ranch Seasoning
This recipe is super simple. It’s as easy as throwing all the ingredients in an airtight container (like a mason jar), capping the container and shaking it vigorously. 60 seconds later, you’ll have delicious dry ranch seasoning that saves for months!

Dare I say better than Hidden Valley Dry Ranch Seasoning!*
- Add all ingredients to an airtight container.
- Place the lid on the container and give it a good shake.
- Place in refrigerator after use.*
- Shake before each use.
3 Tbsp of this mix equals 1 packet of Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning.
If you can’t find buttermilk powder at your local grocery store, you can always omit it. However, the recipe won’t taste quite as delicious.
Store dry ranch seasoning in fridge (due to buttermilk powder) for up to 3 months.
